
Dalia(daliya) Khichdi :
Dalia(daliya) means broken wheat in English and fada in Gujarati. Dalia Khichdi (Fada ni khichdi) is a savory porridge made with broken wheat and blended vegetables. This one-pot supper can be made utilizing a moment pot or pressure cooker. It doesn’t require any overwhelming backups at all. Ingredients:
1/2 cup Dalia (broken wheat/fada) |
1/4 cup split Yellow Moong Dal (or split green moong dal) |
1-2 tablespoons Oil |
1 small piece of Cinnamon (dalchini), optional |
2 Cloves (laung/lavang), optional |
1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera) |
1/4 teaspoon Hing (asafoetida) |
1 small Onion, chopped (approx. 1/3 cup) |
1 small Potato, chopped (approx. 1/2 cup), optional |
1/2 cup chopped Brinjal (eggplant), optional |
1/4 cup Green peas |
1/4 cup chopped Carrot |
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder |
Salt, to taste |
2 cups Water |
Directions:
1. Wash 1/2 cup dalia (broken wheat/fada) and 1/4 container part yellow moong dal (or part green moong dal) together in water. Chop onion, potato, brinjal (eggplant) and carrot into little pieces. You can utilize any vegetable of your choice in this recipe.

2. Warm 1-2 tablespoons oil in a 3-liter capacity pressure cooker over medium fire. Include 1 little piece of cinnamon, 2 cloves, a squeeze of hing (asafoetida) and 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds. Permit them to splutter. Include 1 little chopped onion (approx. 1/3 glass) and sauté until onion turns translucent.

3. Include 1/2 container chopped potato (1 little), 1/2 container chopped brinjal (eggplant), 1/4 cup chopped carrot and 1/4 cup green peas.

4. Mix and cook for 1-2 minutes.

5. Include 1/2 cup washed dalia, 1/4 cup washed part yellow moong dal, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder and salt to taste.

6. Blend well. Mix and cook for a minute.

7. Include 2 cups water. Near the top cook for 5-6 shrieks over medium fire. Turn off the fire. Let the pressure discharge naturally.

8. Open the top and blend the dalia khichdi. Taste it for the salt and include more if required. Dalia Khichdi is ready.

Tips and Variations:
- To cook Dalia Khichdi In Moment Pot – Take the steps from 1 to 7 and do all the handles in sauté mode. At that point include 2 mugs of water and near the top. Cook it in manual high-pressure mode for 8 minutes. At that point let the normal pressure discharge for 10-12 minutes sometime recently opening the lid.
- Time required to cook dalia depends on the quality of it. Some of the time it takes more time to cook.
- Add other vegetables like tomato, green beans, broccoli, and spinach for variation.
- To make the fiery khichdi, include 1 green chili or ½ -1 teaspoon ruddy chili powder and 1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder.
