Veg Chilli Cheese Toast, is a quick breakfast or snack recipe made from cheese, chilies, and some veggies spread on top. This is an Indian version of the Cheese Chili Toast made on Tawa. Oven and Air Fryer Instructions are also included.
Here is a quick snack dish that you can prepare in less than 15 minutes and serve as a breakfast evening snack, or even a starter. This toast is a great option for Kids School Lunch Box or snacks.
The cheesy taste will attract kids and make them eat veggies along with cheese with great pleasure. I have used garlic in this chili cheese toast recipe, but it’s completely optional.

Chilli Cheese Toast Ingredients
- Bread – Feel free to use any kind of bread, like white milk bread, brown bread, whole wheat bread, or sourdough bread.
- Cheese – I like to use shredded Mozzarella cheese. You can use any cheese you like, Amul Processed cheese, Pepper Jack, or Cheddar cheese. All of these taste delicious. Vegans can use vegan cheese.
- Veggies – I have used bell peppers, tomatoes, green chilies, and herbs such as coriander leaves. You can also substitute green chilies with Jalapeno.
- Garlic – Adding garlic is optional. However, freshly minced garlic gives the best flavor.
- Seasoning – I used Oregano, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. You may also add red chili flakes for extra heat.
- Butter – Use soft, unsalted butter for toasting the bread. Vegans can use olive oil or any vegan butter.

- 4 bread (brown or white)
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (or processed cheese), shredded
- ¼ cup colored bell peppers
- 2 tablespoons tomato (deseeded) finely chopped
- 1-2 green chilies (or jalapeno), finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon coriander leaves finely chopped, optional
- ½ teaspoon oregano (or any mixed herbs)
- salt and black pepper to taste
How to Make Veg Chilli Cheese Toast Tawa
Prep Veggies – Finely chop/dice the vegetables and herbs.
Prepare cheese mixture – Combine the cheese, vegetables, and spices in a mixing bowl. Keep aside.
Toast Bread – Toast the bread with butter on one side only.
Top bread slices: Spread chili cheese mixture on the toasted bread side.
Toast on Stovetop Tawa: Heat the iron Tawa on medium-low heat. Spread some butter and place the bread slice. Cover the glass lid and cook on the low flame until the bread is toasted well and the cheese has melted (It takes 4-5 minutes).
Cut it into your desired shape.
Serve Vegetable cheese toast hot with masala chai or milkshake.
Chili Cheese Toast in the Oven
If you are making these delicious Chilli toast on Oven then Pre-heat the oven to about 360°F (180°C) for 5 minutes. Place all the bread in a baking tray and bake for about 5 minutes at 360°F (180°C).
Keep an eye on the toast while they are getting cooking. When the cheese melts and starts to brown slightly on top, turn off the oven take the vegetable chili cheese toast, and place it on a serving plate.
Chili Cheese Toast in an Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 330°F (165°C). Place the bread slice in the air fryer basket and cook at 330°F for 5-6 minutes, until the cheese melts and slightly browns on top. Repeat with other slices.

- As a snack – With Masala Chai or Milkshake.
- With your favorite Soup or Salad – It makes a perfect meal when you pair it with your favorite Soup or Salad.
Tips & Variations
- Ensure to cover the bread toast with a glass lid while cooking, this helps the cheese to melt easily.
- Make ahead: Chili cheese mixture can be made ahead and kept in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a day.
- Veggies: You can add vegetables of your choice, like regular or spring onion, olives, sweet corn kernels, and herbs such as parsley or chives.
- Cheese: You can use cheese as per your choice. I prefer using mozzarella, cheddar, or a mix of both. I also like to use Amul processed cheese for this recipe.
- Toastie: The chili cheese toast can also be made into a sandwich if you prefer. Just place a slice of bread on top, apply some butter, and grill it in a sandwich maker, or toast the sandwich on the Tawa/Skillet.
